What is the difference between a Hoist and a Winch?

A hoist is used solely for lifting, while a winch can be geared to pull. When considering what type of hoist you need, consider the weight and dimensions it should lift as well as how often this equipment will be in use.

It’s important that your budget aligns with these factors when choosing a chain hoister or wire rope electric brake (aka: “winch”).

There are three major variations of a winch: manual, electric, or pneumatic.

Chain Hoists

Chain hoists are a common piece of machinery used to lift and lower equipment. They use hooks connected by chains that you can either manually or electrically power, and they’re great for jobs when the lifting needs vary from one location to another but happen often enough within each area where it’s installed.

The chain hoist is also designed with safety features like a brake lever which stops any sudden drops in weight, preventing accidents such as falls on people below!
