Chain Slings

Chain slings are crucial for lifting heavy loads and are available in a variety of grades, depending on the use.

Chain slings are extremely durable and can be adjusted to suit your requirements, with a range of hooks available; including a safety hook, self-locking hook, swivel hook, or sling hook.

Typically, chain slings are used in the industrial industry, however, they can also be used for transportation and home use.

The grade of the chain sling determines how strong the chain and connector are. For domestic use, grades 30 – 40 are ideal and can be found in hardware stores.

Lower grades of chain sling must not ever be used for the securing or lifting of heavy loads. Grades 70 – 80 chains are ideal for securing goods while transporting heavy loads on trucks and lorries.

Chains with grades 80 – 120 should only be used for lifting on industrial sites.

FAQ

  • The highest grades of chain sling are known to expand, which is why they should only be used for overhead lifting. It is extremely important that the correct grade of chain sling is chosen for your requirements to ensure safety.
  • The master ring of the chain sling can connect to either a single drop chain, a 2 leg chain; otherwise known as a set of brothers, or a 4 leg chain.
  • A single drop chain is ideal for supporting a lighter and balanced load, whereas a 2 leg chain contains two links of chain that will support a heavier load.
  • A 2 leg chain is commonly used on construction sites to lift items such as concrete, pipes, and building materials.
  • The 4 leg chain is ideal for exceedingly heavy loads as it will supply a stronger lifting capability; a 4 leg chain can lift a weight of up to 85 tonnes.
